Home improvement Weekend Ideas

This weekend I was sitting around looking at my house thinking of home improvement projects to do on a rainy Saturday.  Unfortunately, I didn’t end up doing anything, but I took a trip down memory lane to all the ones I had already done!

Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are a great way to add storage and decoration to your house. They don’t even break the bank! We love this tutorial to get you started.

Paint an Accent Wall

Accent walls are very popular for two major reasons.  First, you have unlimited paint colors available to you.  Second, it’s a quick and easy way to personalize the house with your touch.  In John’s and my home we make use of the accent wall extensively to give the room depth.  As you can see in this photo, the wall the TV is on is slightly darker than the surrounding wall.

Replace Your Switch Plates

This one is fun, and something that tons of people forget is such a simple fix! Most houses come with boring white plastic switch plates.  Did you know switch plates come in all different shapes, sizes, materials, and colors?

As you can see, John and I have brushed nickel switch plates in our house to match the colors we use on the walls.   A quick Amazon search on fun switch plate covers shows there are literally thousands for you to choose from!   Go crazy and choose what matches your style the best!
